I don’t want to give you a false impression – I don’t spend as much one-on-one time with my kids as I feel like I should. I’ve always said that prioritizing quality time with your teenagers is one of the hardest parts of homeschooling; at least for me, it is. By the end of the school part of our day, I’m ready just to sit down and relax for a bit – or it’s time to get dinner started.

Now that my kids are all teens and young adults, sometimes arranging quality time can be even more difficult.

Whether your child needs a last-minute science project, wants to impress at the science fair, or simply learns best by building, making a cell model is one of the most memorable ways to explore biology. From edible cakes and cookies to LEGO creations, clay models, and printable projects, these ideas can help you choose the approach that fits your child’s age, learning style, and supplies you already have at home.

It doesn’t matter where they attend school – home, public, or private – at some point nearly every teen is going to take biology. When they do, the first thing they’ll likely study is the cell.

A child can complete every assignment and still never really connect with what they are learning.

That sentence may make us pause, and it should.

Completion matters. Skills matter. Discipline matters. We want our children to read well, write clearly, calculate accurately, think critically, and follow through when something is difficult.

But if our homeschool becomes only about finishing the next lesson, checking the next box, or getting through the next page, our children may start to believe learning is something to survive instead of something to pursue.

That is why it matters to cultivate wonder in your homeschool.

I saw the following question on a friend’s Facebook page recently, and I can’t seem to shake it…

Who (or what) is guiding our boys into manhood?

Because the truth is, if we are not intentional about how we train up a child, the world will be. And it is not lacking voices ready and willing to step into that space. The question is not whether our boys will be shaped… but by whom.

Let’s go ahead and clear a few things up.

Homeschool moms are not all the same.
We are not following some secret handbook.
There is no group chat where we all agree on how to teach fractions or what counts as “enough” for the day.

We are just moms… who chose a different way to live and learn with our kids.

And somehow, that turns us into a public discussion topic.

So before you ask questions, make assumptions, or tilt your head slightly and say, “I could never do that,” here are a few things you should know.
