Let’s go ahead and clear a few things up.

Homeschool moms are not all the same.
We are not following some secret handbook.
There is no group chat where we all agree on how to teach fractions or what counts as “enough” for the day.

We are just moms… who chose a different way to live and learn with our kids.

And somehow, that turns us into a public discussion topic.

So before you ask questions, make assumptions, or tilt your head slightly and say, “I could never do that,” here are a few things you should know.

One of my biggest pet peeves as a homeschooling mom? When people (specifically non-homeschooling people) ASSUME that they know what homeschooling looks like. And if you’re reading this, that’s probably something we have in common.

People love to put mental boxes around anything that’s a little bit different, rebellious, or wild. The reason that generalizations (even the positive kind)  can be annoying for us homeschooling families is because the secret, wonderful, more complicated truth is this: homeschooling looks different for everyone and that includes what the best homeschool curriculum is for your family. The reality is that there are almost as many different ways to homeschool as there are people who choose to homeschool, and that’s part of why we love it so much!

You’ve heard them – they’re those lies people believe about homeschooling families. Okay, so they’re probably not lies so much as misconceptions. Or propaganda.

Yeah, propaganda. You know, those “facts” that a few homeschooling families try to convince people are universal for all homeschooling families.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned over the years, it’s the fact that some of the following statements will sometimes be true for some homeschooling families, but nothing is ever true of all homeschooling families.
